Risk factors for occurrence of periodontal problems

But what are the risk factors for these problems gums? Dental surgeon and secretary general of the French Society of public health dental (ASPBD), Dr. Cohen Fabien us details:
* Dental Hygiene inadequate: If the plaque is not removed regularly, the bacteria that compose are at the root of the tooth and produce enzymes that can damage the epithelial attachment (which connects the tip of the gum to the tooth) and induce inflammation;
* Tobacco, alcohol and nutrition: In promoting the accumulation of plaque, they potentiate the risk of gingival inflammation;
* Food too weak: The lack of chewing limit muscle activity and thus weakens the fabric of support. What encourages periodontal disorders;
* Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy: The many hormonal changes of the pregnant woman increase and exaggerate the reaction gums enzymes released by the bacteria of the plate;
* Gingival recession: If the gums do more to the teeth, pockets holding food and plaque can form between the gums and teeth;
* Reduction of salivary flow: The age, taking certain medications (antihistamines, antidepressants, diuretics …) or diseases with action on the salivary glands can lead to dry mouth which complicates the elimination of dental plaque .
